All of our shower frames are constructed from high quality aluminium, a strong metal which is perfect for showers due to its durability and resistance to corrosion.
What is Aluminium?
Aluminium is a silvery white metal which is the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust and the 3rd most abundant therein following Oxygen and silicon. It is a naturally occurring element however; it is reactive to occur as a ‘free metal’ naturally but is in fact found in over 270 different minerals. From here it can be extracted and purified.
It is best known for its low density which is why it is extremely important in aerospace design. It is also very resistant to corrosion, and therefore ideal for use in products which make use of water such as our showers. It gets its anti-corrosion properties by a process called ‘passivation’. This is when the metal is rinsed with nitric acid and peroxide, this oxidises the metal and dissolves any impurities, it is then rinsed again with deionised water to flush the impurities away and the process is repeated. This created a hard and non-reactive surface that stops any future corrosion.
