Bathroom Furniture

Bathroom FurnitureEveryone has some type of bathroom furniture in there bathroom.  It not only adds to the style of the bathroom but it's also where we put all of our bits and bobs that we use every day in the bathroom.

But you don't want any old type of vanity unit, you want one that matches the style of your bathroom. There are normally only two types of bathroom furniture which is:

  • Wall Hanging
  • Self Standing  (Sometimes including a sink)

You must take a wide selection of styles and sizes before picking your favourite because there is such a huge selection of styles you don't want to pick one and find that there was another one that’s better.

Make sure that you take your time when finding anything for your bathroom because you must consider you spend a lot of your life in the bathroom.

15 min per day (hygiene)
15 min per day (facilities)
30 min per day total

That’s 30 minutes of EVERYDAY that you spend in your bathroom on average, you may not think that is a lot but it adds up.

210 min per week
10920 min per year // 182 hrs // 7.58 days (of an average lifetime)

When you take this into consideration you may think more about your bathroom next time it comes to buying something nice in the most 'private' place in your house.

Vanity Furniture

Vanity bathroom furniture can enhance your bathroom in two main ways; firstly by adding some much needed storage space for all your bathroom items.  Shelving, hooks and rails are perfect for hanging out everyday items such as towels, shampoo and conditioner, soap and loofahs etc.  Where as cupboards, drawers and units allow you to store away less frequently used items such as shaving foam, spare toilet roll and clean towels.

This improves the appearance of your bath room and reduces clutter, not to mention being more practical than storing these items in other rooms of the house.

Secondly, all our bathroom furniture is of beautiful design and the highest build quality.  We find they add to a bathroom’s stylish appearance, even if not being used specifically for storage.  Items such as mirrors and shelving units can sometimes be added for aesthetics more than any thing else.  A shelving unit full of clean fluffy towels on show just implies home sweet home don't you think?

Be it modern or tastefully traditional, for practicality and space or looks, the benefits of our vanity bathroom furniture range are almost unending.

History of Bathroom Furniture

The idea of a room in a home dedicated to personal hygiene and grooming is, strictly speaking, a recent one.  For the most part, houses built before the turn of the century didn’t have bathrooms.  So, in the span of about 100 years, the modern bathroom has evolved from a novelty into an almost universal residential fixture.

Greek Outdoor Toilets

Greek Outdoor Toilets

Prior to this the majority of toilet, bathing and sauna facilities were either outdoors or public/shared and short of somewhere to leave the 'communal sponge' or the odd urn! Bathroom furniture is a relatively new concept.

The closest thing we can see to this is the use of towel rails in Roman baths. The Victorians first made connections between the improper disposal of waste and disease and this is the time when bathrooms began to become more developed than just 'holes in the ground'.

Modern bathrooms have expanded on the Roman idea of very basic toilets with simple towel hooks.  The modern bathroom includes shelving units and housing racks, designed to store away or keep to hand those vital bathroom items that we rely on for everyday cleanliness such as shampoos, towels, soap and toilet roll and alike.
