The thermostat will maintain a constant temperature for your water, no longer will people using the downstairs taps affect the temperature when you are having those showers. The thermostat controls the temperature of the water, helping to maintain it at a constant level. A manual valve wouldn't be able to do this as it only supplies water, hot and cold through the pipes, to the respective bathrooms. The temperature of this is simply down to the user and their reflex speeds if it's too hot.
This product has been designed to work off low pressure water supplies, from a minimum pressure of 0.5 Bar and up. Meaning, it can be used in nearly all types of bathroom design.
